King of Pop Michael Jackson has announced his first concerts in more than a decade. He will be playing an unprecedented 45 dates at London's O2 Arena to mark the 25 year anniversary of the release of the Thriller album. The shows will begin on 8th July and will continue through August and September 2009 with a further seven shows planned for January and February 2010.

A child prodigy and labelled a musical genius, Jackson became one of the most idolised artists on earth. He made his show business debut aged 11 with four of his older brothers in the Jackson Five pop group, then went solo in 1979 with Off the Wall, a huge disco-oriented success that sold 10 million copies. He teamed up with Quincy Jones again in 1982 for his second album, Thriller, which became the top-selling album of all time, with sales exceeding 41 million. This was followed by Bad in 1987 and Dangerous in 1991.

Jackson has lived as a virtual recluse for the last few years and his once-stellar career has been overshadowed by his his startling physical transformation, unusual public behaviour and flurry of allegations and lawsuits.

However according to Guinness World Records he remains the most successful entertainer of all time, and his fan base is still enormous.

Tickets go on sale at 7am on Friday 13 March 2009.
