Upstart Crow Tickets
Overview
Olivier award-winner Sean Foley directs Ben Elton’s hilarious stage adaptation of the critically acclaimed BBC TV sitcom Upstart Crow as it returns to the West End for 10 weeks only. David Mitchell will once again don his bald wig and coddling pouch as Shakespeare alongside original cast members Gemma Whelan as Kate, Rob Rouse as Bottom and Helen Monks as Susanna.
It is 1605 and England’s greatest puffling pant wearing playwright Will Shakespeare is in a spot of bother. In the two years King James has been on the throne, the self-obsessed Shakespeare has only produced two plays - the incomprehensible Measure for Measure and All’s Well That End’s Well which didn’t even end well! The prolix bard must up his game and come up with a brilliant new plot or risk both his reputation and his head...
Distracted by squabbling daughters and the arrival of two shipwrecked, Moorish, cross-dressing, identical twins, Will is finding it increasingly difficult to focus. To make matters worse, his friend and housekeeper Kate has just liberated the Globe Theatre’s prize dancing bear and is keeping it in the scullery. As time runs out, can Will hold on to his dream of being recognised as indisputably the greatest dramatist that ever lived, or will family woes thwart his chances of producing his masterwork?
