Overview

Following a critically acclaimed West End season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket last year, the Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg returns to London for only ten performances of Lev Dodin's production of Anton Chekhov’s complex and insightful masterpiece, Three Sisters.

The three Prozorov sisters - Olga, Masha and Irina live with their brother Andrei in a small provincial Russian town, where resignation, desperation and longing prevail. After moving from urban Moscow with their father, the educated sisters feel isolated in the rural backwater and all yearn to return to the big city. Only the proximity of a nearby military garrison and the company of the officers make their dull and stifling existence tolerable.

The Three Sisters is an intimate portrait of the turmoil of family life with personal crises and tragedies and is an exploration of limited lives, missed opportunities and thwarted dreams.
