Overview
Olivier Award-winner Juliet Stevenson reprises her role in Robert Icke’s sold-out Almeida production of The Doctor as it transfers to the West End. An adaptation of Viennese dramatist Arthur Schnitzler's 1912 play Professor Bernhardi, The Doctor is a provocative and gripping moral thriller which examines the extremely current issues of gender, race, identity politics, cancel culture, media witch hunts and the echo chamber of social media.
Dr Ruth Wolff is a secular Jew and a senior consultant in neurological medicine who runs a prestigious institute researching dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
As a 14 year old girl lies dying from sepsis following a botched self-administered abortion, Dr Wolff refuses to allow a priest entry into the room. When a recording of her altercation with the priest goes viral on the internet, her life is turned upside down as she begins to receive severe backlash from some of the hospital staff, the girl’s father, a network of social media users, and a panel of social activist groups.The doctor finds herself at the epicentre of a seething media firestorm, where identities become weaponised and pitted against each other.

Access
There are 2 spaces for wheelchair users in the Royal Circle and transfer seating is also available. A maximum of 2 wheelchair transferees and 1 scooter is permitted per performance.
A dual channel infra-red system with 12 headsets is available for the hearing impaired. Headsets should be collected from the cloakroom.
Guide dogs are allowed inside the auditorium, or staff can dog-sit if preferred. A maximum of 4 guide dogs is permitted per performance.
