Nine Night Tickets
Overview
Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre, Roy Alexander Weise's remarkable production of Natasha Gordon's debut play Nine Night transfers to the West End this December. The play takes its name from the Caribbean tradition of an extended period of official mourning after a death when friends and relatives visit to pay their respects. The final night, Nine Night, is the most important as it’s when the the spirit of the deceased is given a final farewell and encouraged to leave the house.
Maggie’s cousin Gloria has recently passed away from cancer and three generations of her family gather together at her London home. But for Gloria's children and grandchildren, marking her death with a party that lasts over a week is a test. The eldest of her grown up children, Trudy, was abandoned in Jamaica as a young child when her mother travelled to the UK with the Windrush generation. When Trudy makes a surprise visit to the UK to attend Gloria’s funeral, long-buried grievances and resentment raise their heads with her siblings Robert and Lorraine.
