Mary Stuart Tickets
Overview
Following a critically acclaimed, sell-out run at the Almeida Theatre, Robert Icke’s new adaptation of Mary Stuart transfers to the Duke of York's Theatre for a limited run starring Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams who trade both the play’s central roles of Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart, decided at each performance by the toss of a coin.
Friedrich Schiller's compelling political drama takes us behind the scenes of some of British history’s most crucial days, pitting two powerful women one against the other and charting the last three days of Mary Stuart's life. The extraordinary relationship between England's Protestant Queen Elizabeth I and her rival Catholic cousin Mary Queen of Scots, has fascinated people for centuries - two Queens ruling neighbouring countries in a period of great political, religious and cultural change. Astonishingly they never met, but Mary Stuart brings them together head on in a dramatic confrontation.
