Manon Tickets
Overview
Based on the 1731 novel Manon Lescaut by Abbé Prévost, Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s masterpiece Manon is a seductive ballet of love, avarice, decadence and passion.
Set in 18th century France, Manon is the story of young and naïve convent girl Manon. Her brother Lescaut is offering her to the highest bidder when she meets and falls in love with penniless student Des Grieux. After eloping to Paris, she is soon lured by the opulence, privilege and finery of the wealthy Monsieur GM and becomes his mistress.
Torn between the two worlds, Manon's wish to have it all becomes her downfall when Des Grieux cheats at cards in an attempt to win Monsieur GM’s fortune and they are both arrested and deported to New Orleans.
Alongside Jules Massenet's haunting score, stockinged aristocrats, ragged beggars and courtesans fill the stage to transport you from a gambling den in Paris to a desolate Louisiana swamp, bringing this tragic tale to life.
