Overview
London's Savoy Theatre hosts the UK premiere of Casey Nicholaw's sensational Tony Award-winning musical Dreamgirls featuring Glee star Amber Riley as Effie White.
Said to be loosely based on the story of Diana Ross and The Supremes and The Shirelles, Dreamgirls was a huge hit on Broadway when it opened in December 1981 before being transferred to the big screen in 2006 in a film adaptation starring Beyonce, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson.
Set in 1960’s America in the dawning era of R&B, Dreamgirls charts the tumultuous journey of Chicago singing trio “The Dreams”. Spotted at a talent competition by used-car salesman Curtis Taylor Jr, he becomes their manager and leads them to initial success. But the girls soon learn the hard lesson that show business is tough when Curtis decides to replace Effie with the more appealing Deena as lead singer.
A test of love, friendship and success, Dreamgirls features classic songs from a revolutionary time in American music history including And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, I Am Changing, Listen and One Night Only.

Wheelchair access to the main auditorium is through a side entrance from the Embankment side of Carting Lane. Please contact the Theatre Manager half an hour before the performance if you wish to use this entrance.
There are 2 spaces for wheelchair users and transfer seating is available. Each wheelchair user must bring a non-disabled companion with them.
There is an infra-red system with 12 headsets for the hearing impaired. A deposit is required.
